The value of PRINCE2™ for Construction Project Management
There is a lot that needs to be done before a construction project can begin to get off the ground. Creative people, financial experts and legal professionals all play a part in the initial development phases.
Once that project has actually begun, construction managers, engineers and surveyors organise the people working on the site to ensure that what is built matches the original designs.
Throughout all phases of a construction project, coordination of these activities in a structured way is vital. Many professionals are now turning to project management training to help them gain the skills required to effectively contribute to the project work now on offer. As we move towards delivery of the London Olympics, surveys estimate that between 30,000 and 50,000 new construction related jobs will be created. 20% of these will be in managerial and administrative roles, including project management. If you want to take advantage of these employment opportunities, it is essential that you equip yourself with the most ‘in demand’ skills.
In the last 10 years, project management has developed into a well understood and well respected management discipline. PRINCE2™ is a specific project management method that concentrates on the structure of a well run project, and the activities that the Project Manager and project team must perform to ensure that the project successfully delivers. PRINCE2™ provides a detailed step by step guide through the life of the project, with lots of ideas of what management information to document before the project begins, what to agree before each significant piece of work is undertaken and what to agree and document before closing the project.
PRINCE2™ has been adopted as the method of choice by the public sector and evidence that staff have this qualification is a growing requirement in many construction related bids for the public sector.
Whilst construction firms are offering in-house training in PRINCE2™, already trained staff is highly sought after and salaries reflect this.
